Coach Stephen Gladstone was a coach/mentor to me and has motivated me throughout my time at UC Berkeley from 1998 - 2002 to be the best athlete I can be and achieve my dream of being a national champion. He had an incredible presence and we all believed in everything he did as a coach. He not only was our rowing coach but he taught us how to be the best on and off the water. I've learned many life-lessons that I still use today. It was an honor to be part of such an unbelievable program with rowers that we recruited from all over the world! In some cases it was harder to make the Cal Varsity Boat then it was to make the US National Team boat! The intro to this video provides details of what the rowers really go through during the race.
