Have You Seen Our New Logo?

In early June, we unveiled the new logo for Roworx. Designed by Barbara Holbrook, the logo represents the history of rowing in Long Beach and represents the team spirit that is at the heart of both of the rowing centers.

The Idea Behind the Roworx Logo

The logo was inspired by the US National Rowing Team as well as the Long Beach Rowing Association. The four stars located at the top of the logo represent the four Olympic Games that Long Beach had involvement in, 1932 Los Angeles summer Olympic games, 1968 Men’s U.S. Olympic Trials, 1976 U.S. Women’s Olympic Trials, 1984 U.S. Olympic Trials. The figure in the middle of the logo is rowing on an erg, represented by the circle.

All For One: In The Spirit Of The Race 2

This video follows Coach Stephen Gladstone and his University of California crew team in their quest to rebuild the once dominant rowing program. Gladstone was widely regarded as one of the most influential coaches in rowing, and had a reputation for building champions. In 1976, he led California to their first championship together, and later at Brown University his crews amassed five more IRA varsity titles. In his second stint at Cal, the team experienced heartbreaking defeats and unexpected challenges, but Gladstone and his squad never lost sight of their ambitious desire to bring the national trophy back to the Ebright Boathouse. In 1999 all of the elements came together when the Varsity eight set the course record, and ultimately delivered four consecutive IRA varsity titles.

In this clip at :36 to :42   seconds you can see Jack rowing and training on the rowing machine as Steve Gladstone talks about what it takes to be a great rower/athlete.

All For One: In The Spirit Of The Race 1

Coach Stephen Gladstone was a coach/mentor to me and has motivated me throughout my time at UC Berkeley from 1998 – 2002 to be the best athlete I can be and achieve my dream of being a national champion. He had an incredible presence and we all believed in everything he did as a coach. He not only was our rowing coach but he taught us how to be the best on and off the water. I’ve learned many life-lessons that I still use today. It was an honor to be part of such an unbelievable program with rowers that we recruited from all over the world! In some cases it was harder to make the Cal Varsity Boat then it was to make the US National Team boat!

The intro to this video provides details of  what the rowers really go through during the race. Very powerful beginning!
